Rann Utsav New Year 2026-27: Christmas and New Year in the White Desert

- Rann Utsav 2026
Most people welcome the New Year with fireworks and crowds. This year, try silence, salt and a sky full of stars. Rann Utsav New Year 2026-27 puts you on the edge of the White Rann in Kutch. The festival runs from 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027, so Christmas and New Year fall right in its busiest stretch.
Why Kutch suits couples, families and friends
Couples get sunsets over endless white salt and a sky packed with stars. Families get a self-contained tent city with a kids zone and evening cultural shows. Everyone, from toddlers to grandparents, finds something to do. Friends get the adventure side: ATV rides, archery and paramotoring, followed by long dinners and louder laughter than any city party allows.
What to do at Rann Utsav
Start with the White Rann at sunset, when the salt turns gold, then pink. Return after dark for folk music, Kutchi instruments and Siddi performances. Spend a slow morning at the spa, on a bicycle or in the meditation hall.
Then go beyond the festival. Visit Kala Dungar for wide views, Mandvi for its beach, and craft villages where artisans still work by hand. Staying near Dholavira? Add its UNESCO World Heritage site.
Not sure which tent suits your group? Tell our team your dates and we’ll suggest options.
Best dates for Christmas and New Year
- 22 to 24 December (full moon): The salt glows all night. It’s the most magical window and the first to sell out.
- 25 December: Christmas falls on a Friday, so you get a natural long weekend.
- 31 December: Welcome 2027 under open sky instead of a crowded club.
- 7 January 2027 (dark moon): If you extend your trip, this is when the stars are sharpest.
Desert nights are cold, so pack warm layers. Book early for all four dates. The White Rann depends on the season, so ask us for the latest conditions before you pay. See our full moon guide and special dates page for more.
